Greentune: Is a licensed ECU upgrade utilising Factory remapping protocols directly from and into your vehicles Engine Control Unit. Tuning is either via the OBDII port or requires the ECU to be removed and a bench BDM read and write protocol is then followed. Any tuning does not overwrite or compromise existing Factory Service, Repair or Upgrade protocols. We retain low "in gear" torque limits (especially important with Automatic and newer DSG transmissions); retain maximum RPM and cold running restrictions and vitally - maintain all the absolute limp home protections. This is NOT a clandestine remap and complies with all factory coding and diagnostics - it's a factory map.
Performance: A turbo Petrol or Diesel up to 3.0 capacity will usually see gains of between 25-30% in both Power (Kw) and Torque(Nm). Larger engines will achieve gains in proportion to the developed Absolute Maximum stage I - where a detuned 3.0 and a more highly tuned engine from the "same family" often arrive at similar maxed out numbers. A Normally aspirated EFI engine will make gains close to 10% - whereas a High pressure EFI (such as the VW FSI engines) will achieve closer to 15% improvements especially where variable valve timing is fitted. Supercharged engines will make similar gains to normally aspirated engines - simply because the forced induction being crankshaft driven and so until that is "underdriven" then the results remain linear.
Remapping: Is completed by DNA Tuning in the United Kingdom who select each tune tailored from an extensive suite of specific maps that require make, model, drivetrain and year of manufacture - all based on the chassis number ECU ID and version codes from the vehicle and directly relate this to existing factory maps. Based on Stage 1 level tuning DNA then select the performance file, based upon the fuel quality and specification (we set this locally) so we can optomise the engine and drivetrain in your car, compiled from the manufacturers own library - each map is specific to each "tune" and is not transferrable or reuseable.
Economy: Might be a oxymoran when talking about "tuning" - but Greentune not only delivers more power and torque - it provides more flexiblity which transforms into improved economy? Moden engines and the adaptive Tiptronic Automatic transmissions work together selecting the best gear for a given load and with more useful power in hand the extra torque especially has customers readily reporting a more relaxed driving experience, easier (higher) in gear passing (on the open road), and under the same conditions - improved economy simply because more "torques" transforms their vehicle.

Installation: OBDII port read and write is done in two stages and generally READ on one day and WRITE to the ECU the next. For Out of town (Auckland) vehicles the ECU may be removed (we provide technical instructions) and couriered to us. We will then using sophisticated BDM equipment READ and WRITE the files and return the complete "Tuned" ECU by the next working day.
Stage II and More: Remapping to Stage II and beyond requires hardware upgrades and for Stage III internal modifications and bigger turbo's. Injectors, fuel pressure regulators, Front mounted Intercoolers, BIG turbos and Cat delete downpipes - then there are the Big Valve heads and stronger rods. All this and you can get over the 300Kw and 500Nm torque from a 4 cylinder 1.8 VAG 20V motor - but not for the faint hearted - Genuine Race spec and not for street applications. POA.
